Shameless Plugs and other promotions.

You will notice, that from time to time, I will plug other Amiga promotions and web-sites. I don't do it for any money, I do it, because we all have to stick together as a Community.

On the right hand side of the page, you may have noticed the "Viva Amiga" documentary "teaser" Video by Zach Weddington. I received an update e-mail from Zach last night, and he informed me that at least 2 new interviews have been added to the film. RJ Mical one of the Original Amiga team, and Amiga animator (and "Sabrina-online") Eric Schwartz. Eric will also be doing some original animation for the film. You can also see an example of his work on the right hand side of the page.

Zach also informed me that now, he is taking Donations and Pre-Orders for the film. You can Help out by going to the website HERE .

I wish to announce that the Amiga Lounge is pleased to help out also. From now until JULY 20, 2010, I will donate 50% of all the revenue generated from any and all sales on the on-line store, and 75% of all donations here to the Lounge to help keep it running. I will also make sure Zach knows the donation comes from both the Amiga Lounge and you!

Ok, so I am crazy, but I truely wish to help out in any way possible. Funds are tight for me right now and although I am personally make a few donatitions when money permits, I can think of no better way to help than this.

update April 7, 2011

The A4000 is slowly coming together

So, a month has past, last moth at this time, we still had winter like conditions-20 Degrees C and snow. Today its a nice +7 C, and all that snow we got in January is flooding nicely now.

The A4000 is slowly becoming ready for final assembly. Yesterday, the package From AmigaKit arrived in the mail. I know, I go on and on about AmigaKit, but, the truly make my life a little easer with this hobby. I get a lot of questions from people about them, as most people are leery of ordering products from another country. I just don't think they get near enough credit or thanks for what they do. I can just say they they have top notch products and service.

First, my order came all squished up in my mail box. I was freaking out at first, so I flattened the outer envelope out and you can see in the photos below.

Then I pulled out the inner box, which was wrapped in more bubble wrap and taped securely.

Once I sawed through the outer warp, this is what was inside.

Yep, the tape is all the way around it.

One the box was finally open, it housed 2 packages of heat sealed bubble wrap. I joke, that someone at Amigakit likes the heat sealer way too much, for inside the heat-sealed bubble wrap, was a heat-sealed (I hope-anti-static) bag.

Once the wrapping was off, the treasures were revealed. I had to be very careful with the knife to cut away all the plastics on these.

First up was the 4-way IDE board. The Amiga 4000 originally had only one IDE channel, opting for only 2 devices. These boards are made by Amigakit and have their branding on them. Sorry for the bad pictures, but the latest batch looks a bit more athsticaly pleasing then the photos on AmigaKit's website.

Next, I ordered a CF drive for the A4000. I was expecting the same card, I got a couple weeks ago for the A600, the only obvious differences would be that this is a 40 pin for 3.5" drives and the A600 being a 44 pin for laptop drives.

On the surface this card is almost identical to the A600 , but then I turned it over to inspect it a little more, I found out this was a "double" drive capable of taking a second CF card. Now that was a fun surprise. (Thanks Guys). The back of the card also had 2 other surprises. First, a "AmigaKit Quality control"sticker, and also a thin layer of film/ crud/ dust. This leads me to believe that the film (which easily wiped off) was soldering flux residue or a finally cleanup of the board (It almost seemed like "comet" when it dries). Normally, people would ignore this or not put much thought into it, but these 2 clues, have lead me to the conclusion that AmigaKit is making these adaptor cards themselves, instead of ordering a crate of them from China for a buck a piece. Is this a good or bad thing? Hey, I think it is cool, but then I am crazy.

More soon.
